Nigeria advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 4-0 victory over Mozambique at Complexe Sportif de Fes, powered by two goals from Victor Osimhen and a standout display from Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, who both produced one goal and two assists in a one-sided contest.
The Super Eagles secured a last eight meeting with either Algeria or DR Congo in Marrakech after controlling almost every phase. Osimhen had an effort ruled out for offside by VAR in the second minute, yet Mozambique could not hold out, and Nigeria’s attacking combinations became more effective as the match progressed.
Nigeria broke through on 20 minutes when Lookman met Adams’ low cut-back and fired into the top-right corner. The pair combined again soon after,
Adams this time crossing low for Osimhen, who applied a calm first-time finish from close range to give Nigeria a deserved two-goal cushion before half-time.
Osimhen struck again early in the second half, arriving at the back post to convert Lookman’s driven pass across goal. Lookman later turned creator once more in the 75th minute, slipping Adams into the area, and the Sevilla forward beat Ernan Siluane at the near post with a powerful strike.
Data from the match highlighted Nigeria’s control. The Super Eagles generated 2.79 expected goals from 22 attempts, while Mozambique managed 0.1 xG from only two shots. Possession also favoured Nigeria, who held 61.2% of the ball and completed 462 passes compared with Mozambique’s 267, reflecting sustained pressure.
Lookman delivered one of the standout individual outings of this Africa Cup of Nations. The winger created six chances, the most in the match, and had nine touches in the opposition box, level with Adams. Lookman’s assist for Adams took the total to four in this tournament, more than any other player so far.
Nigeria’s attacking strength also continued a strong continental run. The Super Eagles have now scored in 11 straight AFCON matches, their longest sequence with a goal in the competition since at least the 2009-2010 cycle. That consistency offers confidence ahead of the quarter-final in Marrakech against Algeria or DR Congo.
Moses Simon almost added a fifth late on, drawing another save from Siluane after Raphael Onyadika missed the target from a separate chance. Nigeria, however, appeared content with the 4-0 scoreline as the match closed, having already secured progress and delivered a clear message to other AFCON contenders.

Nigeria’s 4-0 success over Mozambique, driven by Lookman, Osimhen and Adams, combined fluent attacking moves with firm control of possession and territory. With strong underlying numbers and an extended scoring streak in AFCON play, the Super Eagles move into the quarter-finals with momentum and clear belief in their current structure.
