Jose Maria Gimenez's dramatic 93rd-minute goal secured a 2-1 victory for Atletico Madrid against Inter in the Champions League. Atletico began strongly at the Metropolitano, with Julian Alvarez scoring from a tight angle on the right after nine minutes. Initially disallowed for handball, the goal was awarded following a VAR review.
Inter responded with Hakan Calhanoglu's powerful 20-yard shot, forcing Juan Musso into action after 20 minutes. Atletico faced a scare just after halftime when Nicolo Barella's close-range lob hit the crossbar. Despite this, Inter equalised in the 54th minute through Piotr Zielinski, who finished clinically after being set up by Ange-Yoan Bonny.
Antoine Griezmann's introduction revitalised Atletico, as he forced Yann
Sommer into a crucial save from close range. Griezmann then delivered a perfect corner in the 93rd minute, allowing Gimenez to score and send Atletico fans into celebration. This win places Atletico 12th in the Champions League standings, while Inter remains fourth.

Julian Alvarez's opener marked his 10th Champions League goal for Atletico in just 14 matches. He joins Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez as players who have reached double figures for the club in this competition. Despite their efforts, Inter might feel they deserved more from the match, having produced an expected goals (xG) of 1.36 compared to Atletico's 0.99 xG.
This defeat is only the second time under Cristian Chivu that Inter has suffered consecutive losses across all competitions. The previous instance occurred between August and September against Udinese and Juventus in Serie A.
