Arsenal's Women's Champions League journey saw a thrilling comeback as they defeated Real Madrid with two second-half headers from Alessia Russo. This victory marked only their second win in the current
European campaign. Despite a challenging start at Mangata Pay UK Stadium, Arsenal managed to turn the game around on Wednesday.
In the first half, Arsenal struggled offensively, managing just three attempts without hitting the target. Real Madrid capitalised on this when former Gunner Caroline Weir volleyed in a goal in the 43rd minute. However, Arsenal's performance improved significantly after halftime.
Chloe Kelly's cross allowed Russo to equalise with a looping header over Misa. Later, in the 67th minute, Russo secured the win by powerfully heading in from Beth Mead's corner. Although she missed a chance for a hat-trick, her contributions were crucial to Arsenal's success.
Despite Alba Redondo having an opportunity to level the score for Madrid during stoppage time, her shot was directly aimed at Daphne van Domselaar. This ensured that Arsenal maintained their lead and secured the victory.

This season, Russo has been impressive in the Champions League, scoring four goals so far. She is just three goals short of her tally from last season. The 26-year-old had three shots against Madrid, second only to Olivia Smith who had four attempts among Arsenal players.
Russo also excelled in duels, winning six out of 13 and notably succeeding in two aerial battles that resulted in goals. Her performance has been pivotal for Arsenal as they navigate this European campaign.
