Lucy Bronze has agreed a new deal with Chelsea, keeping the England defender at Stamford Bridge until 2027. The extension secures one of the squad’s most experienced players, as Chelsea adjust to major changes in attack and prepare for a full move to Stamford Bridge.
Bronze moved to Chelsea from Barcelona before the 2024-25 season and has since become a central figure. The 32-year-old has played 56 matches in all competitions, scored five goals and contributed to four major trophies during two campaigns under different pressures and expectations.
The defender lifted the Women’s Super League title in the first season with Chelsea, adding the FA Cup and League Cup. The League Cup returned to Chelsea again in 2025-26, even though the team could not
retain the league trophy during that campaign.
Chelsea’s title defence fell short in the most recent Women’s Super League season, as Manchester City claimed first place. Bronze still featured regularly, playing 13 league games, and added more experience to a squad that will now be reshaped following key departures in attack.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Bronze explained the reasons behind the contract decision. "I feel like this is the right thing for me at this time," Bronze told Chelsea's official club website. "I've really enjoyed the last two years being at Chelsea and back in England, and I feel like we're in a place now where we're moving forward as a club. Added to the move to Stamford Bridge [where Chelsea will play all their WSL home games starting next season], it's a really exciting time to be part of the team. "
Bronze’s trophy record since arriving in west London highlights the scale of Chelsea’s recent success and ongoing expectations, with major domestic silverware collected in quick succession across league and cup competitions.
| Season | Competition | Achievement |
|---|---|---|
| 2024-25 | Women’s Super League | Champions |
| 2024-25 | FA Cup | Winners |
| 2024-25 | League Cup | Winners |
| 2025-26 | League Cup | Winners |
The announcement of Bronze’s new contract followed confirmation that striker Sam Kerr has rejoined Gotham FC. Kerr departed after six successful years at Chelsea, creating a major vacancy in attack while defensive stability is reinforced through Bronze’s longer stay.

Recruitment work is expected to continue, with Salma Paralluelo linked after leaving Barcelona earlier this week. Reports in Europe suggest Chelsea, Arsenal and Lyon are all interested in the Spain forward, underlining the competitive market for high-level attacking players.
The combination of Bronze’s renewed deal, the loss of Kerr and interest in Paralluelo outlines a period of transition. Chelsea retain a proven defender through 2027, while planning further moves to keep competing for domestic trophies and return to the summit of the Women’s Super League.
