Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has postponed her much-anticipated wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal after an unexpected health crisis struck her family on the day of the ceremony. The event,
originally scheduled for Sunday (November 23) in Sangli, was called off when Smriti's father, Shrinivas Mandhana, fell unwell on the morning of the wedding.
According to her manager, Tuhin Mishra, the situation escalated quickly. "Smriti's father, Mr. Shrinivas Mandhana was having breakfast this morning, and his health started deteriorating.
We waited thinking he would recover soon, but it didn't improve. So we thought not to take any risk and called an ambulance, and he has been taken to the hospital. He is under observation," Mishra said.
He added that Smriti, who shares a deep emotional bond with her father, decided immediately that the wedding could not proceed under such circumstances. "Smriti is very close to her father. So, she has decided to postpone the marriage, which was going to happen today, till her father is fine. The doctor has said he (Mandhana's father) will have to be in the hospital for the time being. We are also in shock and hope that he recovers quickly because it's a big occasion for everyone," Mishra noted.
The family requested privacy as they navigate the situation. "So, Smriti is very clear, she wants her father to be okay first, and later she will get married. I would request you to respect the family's privacy at this time," Mishra added.
Dr. Naman Shah, the family physician, shared an update on Shrinivas Mandhana's condition. "At around 1.30 pm, Mr Srinivas Mandhana got left-sided chest pain, we call it 'angina' in medical term. cardiac enzymes are elevated, hence we need to keep him in observation," he told PTI, also confirming that his blood pressure was high and further tests, including angiography, may be required.
Amid this, another concern emerged on Monday (November 24) when Palash Muchhal was taken to hospital due to a viral infection and severe acidity. NDTV reported that "Palash had to go to a private hospital for treatment. However, the issue wasn't serious," and he has since been discharged.
With both families dealing with medical emergencies, Mandhana is prioritising recovery over celebration for now.
