In a high-voltage IPL 2026 clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly scripted a new chapter in Punjab Kings' history.
The pair slammed a blistering 182-run stand for the third wicket against Lucknow Super Giants, the first time any non-opening combination has crossed the 150-run mark for PBKS in the tournament's 19-year run.
Chasing a competitive total after LSG posted 198/6, PBKS lost both openers inside the powerplay for just 38 runs. At 41/2 in the 6th over, the home side needed stability and momentum. Arya, promoted to No. 3, and Connolly, the hard-hitting Australian all-rounder at No. 4, walked in and changed the script.
Arya unleashed his trademark pull shots and lofted drives,
while Connolly rotated strike intelligently and cleared the ropes with clinical precision. The duo brought up their 100 in just 52 balls and raced to 150 in 78 deliveries, leaving the LSG bowlers - including pace spearheads and spin twins - clutching at straws.
PBKS and 150+ Partnerships
PBKS's two previous 150-plus stands were both by openers: Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh's 206 against RCB in Dharamsala (2011) and KL Rahul-Mayank Agarwal's 183 against Rajasthan Royals in Sharjah (2020). This was the first time a non-opening partnership delivered such fireworks.
The Kings lost their way a bit after both players departed. Connolly scored 87 off 46, while Arya scored 93 off just 37 balls. A late flurry from Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh took them to 254/7 in their full quota of overs.
