Mason Greenwood's impressive performance helped Marseille secure a 5-1 victory over Nice at Allianz Riviera, propelling them to the top of Ligue 1. Greenwood netted twice, following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's early goal in the 11th minute. Timothy Weah and Igor Paixao also scored, moving Marseille ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, who are set to play Le Havre on Saturday.
Marseille's opening goal came when Benjamin Pavard directed Greenwood's corner towards the goal. Aubameyang was quick to react, flicking the ball past defenders into the net. Greenwood added his first goal just after 30 minutes, deceiving Yehvann Diouf with a clever strike. His second goal was even more impressive as he dribbled through Nice's defence before scoring from the edge
of the box.
Aubameyang continued to influence the game in the second half by assisting goals for both Weah and Paixao. This came after Mohamed-Ali Cho scored for Nice, but Roberto De Zerbi’s team maintained their dominance. Late in the match, Greenwood nearly completed a hat-trick but was denied by Diouf's quick save.

Roberto De Zerbi was pleased with his team's clinical display post-international break. Marseille achieved an expected goals (xG) tally of 2.87 from 11 shots on target compared to Nice’s 1.2 from seven attempts. Greenwood now leads Ligue 1 with ten goals this season, joining Harry Kane (13), Kylian Mbappe (13), and Erling Haaland (14) as players reaching double figures in Europe's top leagues.
The match marked a significant milestone for Aubameyang, who has now scored 400 career goals. The Gabonese forward led his team with five touches in the box, created four chances, had two big chances, and provided two assists during the game.
