Delhi golfer Chaitanya Pandey edged a close contest to claim the IGU North East Amateur Golf Championship 2025 at Jorhat Gymkhana Club, finishing at 1-under 283 for four rounds, and beating fellow Delhi player Deepak Yadav by a single stroke after a tense final day.
The Indian Golf Union event, held from December 2 to 5, 2025, saw Chaitanya return rounds of 72, 71, 68 and 72 on the Par-71 layout. Deepak posted 2-under 69 on the final day, the best closing round, yet finished second on a four-day aggregate of 284.
Deepak's last round 69 was also the best personal effort of the week for the runner-up, but the margin stayed one shot. Behind the leading pair, Arin Ahuja carded 73, 73, 71 and 68, while Anshul Mishra returned 74, 68, 72 and 71, with
both players sharing third place at one-over 285.
Chaitanya reflected on the narrow win after the final round and underlined the pressure from the chasing group. "I am super happy to win the IGU North East Amateur Championship at the end as it was a tough competition with Deepak, Arin and Anshul close on my heels. I want to thank the Indian Golf Union for providing platforms like these to amateur golfers like me. It gives us the opportunity to test our skills and prepare for international competitions," Chaitanya said later.
Indian Golf Union council member Nagesh Singh praised both the champion and the wider field, and highlighted the aims of the governing body. "I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone who participated in the tournament and especially Chaitanya for putting up a brilliant performance. IGU's endeavour is to give a platform to these talented amateurs to express themselves and prepare themselves for international competitions by testing themselves on different courses across the sub-continent. "
The IGU North East Amateur Golf Championship 2025 therefore closed with a narrow victory for Chaitanya, consistent scoring across four rounds, and strong challenges from Deepak, Arin and Anshul, while the Indian Golf Union stressed its continuing role in creating competitive opportunities for rising amateur golfers in the region.
