Top seed Keegan Smith of the United States won the men's singles title at the Karnataka Open. Smith beat fourth seed Philip Sekulic of Australia 6-2, 7-5. In the men's doubles final, Indians Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha and Saketh Myneni lifted the trophy. The pair defeated Petr Bar Biryukov and Grigoriy Lomakin 6-2, 6-3.
The finals were played on Saturday at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium in Bengaluru. Smith earned USD 9,500 and 50 ATP ranking points. Sekulic received USD 5,500 and 25 ATP points. Next, the SM Krishna Open Memorial begins on March 17. The opening round of qualifying matches starts then.
The singles match turned early when Smith lost serve in the third game. Sekulic took that opening, but Smith responded straight away. Smith broke back
in the fourth game. Smith then secured more breaks in the sixth and eighth games. That run gave Smith the first set 6-2.
The second set stayed tighter through six games, with steady serving from both players. Sekulic gained a break in the seventh game. Smith removed that lead at once with a break in the next game. Sekulic saved a championship point in the tenth game. Smith later broke in the 12th game to finish it.
Poonacha and Myneni set the tone with sharp returns and strong teamwork. The Indian pair made the key move in the sixth game of the first set. Another break followed in the eighth game to close the set 6-2. The second set stayed level for long spells. A break in the eighth game set up a 6-3 finish.
The doubles champions collected USD 2,980 and 50 ATP points. Finalists Biryukov and Lomakin took USD 1,740 and 30 ATP points. The final scores from the Karnataka Open finals are listed below.
