The Oklahoma City Thunder must manage without key guard Jalen Williams until at least early February after a right hamstring strain. Williams left during the second quarter of a 122-120 defeat to the Miami Heat, having initially been listed with right thigh soreness by the team.
The Thunder, currently leading the NBA at 35-8, plan to reassess the injury in the coming weeks. Team officials indicated the setback might keep Williams off the court through the All-Star break, which starts on February 13, depending on how the hamstring responds.
Team communication on January 19 reflected the cautious approach to the Jalen Williams injury, with Thunder staff avoiding a firm return date. "Per Thunder PR, OKC will see where Jalen Williams is at with his
right hamstring strain in a couple of weeks. " The message underlined concern over any rush back to competitive minutes.

Before the Jalen Williams injury, the 24-year-old delivered strong all-round numbers in 24 games. Williams averaged 16.8 points, 5.6 assists, which is a career high, and 4.8 rebounds. That production followed a standout campaign where Williams became a first-time All-Star and helped secure the NBA title.
Last season, Williams collected major recognition, earning All-Defensive second team and All-NBA third team status as the Thunder won the championship. This new hamstring issue brings a second long spell out this season, after Williams missed the opening 19 games while recovering from wrist surgery.
With the Jalen Williams injury removing a primary creator, Oklahoma City is expected to give Ajay Mitchell a larger offensive role. The second-year guard already ranks fourth on the roster in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game. Thunder coaches now rely on broader depth to keep momentum during the All-Star run-up.
