Nikola Jokic delivered a dominant comeback display as the Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 122-109, easing worries about recent fitness issues. The centre returned from a knee injury absence and immediately influenced both ends of the floor in Denver’s latest NBA win.
Jokic produced 31 points while shooting 73% from the field, hitting 8 of 11 attempts, and 67% from three-point range with 2 of 3 made. The performance also included 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals, underlining full involvement after 16 missed games.
The knee problem came in December against the Miami Heat and sidelined Jokic for a month, which was a new experience for the two-time MVP. Jokic admitted the break brought uncertainty, yet the first game back suggested
rhythm and confidence remained intact.
"It was a new thing for me," Jokic said of being unable to play for a month. "I was getting nervous because I didn't know the steps. I didn't know what I was supposed to do, what I was supposed to feel. It was a different kind of nervous. I was not scared to use [the knee]. I was not thinking about it while I was running and while I was playing. I think that's a good sign I'm ready. "

Despite the impressive numbers, Denver head coach David Adelman stressed that Jokic’s minutes and workload still need careful management. Adelman acknowledged the lift provided by Jokic’s presence, but urged patience while Jokic adapts again to full NBA intensity after the layoff.
"It's great to have [Jokic] back, but let's temper a little bit," said Adelman. "The guy's been hurt. He's been out. Having the best player alive, in my opinion. that is a major, major thing to get back. I just want to make sure we temper the idea of what it could be like. He's got to get out there and feel comfortable again. We all know what it is when he is comfortable. It's something we've never seen. We're moving in the right direction. Obviously, we're excited to have him back, as we will be with any of these guys that have been out for an extended period of time. "
Denver now turns attention to a meeting with reigning NBA champions the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, a significant early test for Jokic after returning. The Nuggets will look to build on the Clippers result while keeping Jokic healthy and steadily increasing involvement.
