Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a major blow in IPL 2026, with left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a right quadricep injury.
In an official statement, the franchise confirmed that the injury will require "more than 12 weeks to heal," effectively ending Khaleel's campaign and deepening CSK's growing injury concerns.
The setback comes after Khaleel picked up the injury during CSK's clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai on April 14, where he walked off the field just five balls into his final over. Youngster Gurjapneet Singh stepped in to complete the over and is now likely to take on a bigger role in the pace attack.
Khaleel's absence further weakens a squad already stretched thin by injuries.
MS Dhoni continues his recovery from a calf injury that has sidelined him since the early stages of the tournament. While Dhoni has resumed light training and is facing throwdowns in the nets, he is yet to return to full match intensity, with his comeback timeline extending beyond the initially expected two weeks.
Overseas pacer Nathan Ellis has already been ruled out for the entire season, while his replacement, Spencer Johnson, is also recovering from injury and has not yet joined the squad.
Who Will Replace Khaleel Ahmed?
With their pace resources dwindling, CSK may now turn to domestic options such as Mukesh Choudhary and Ramakrishna Ghosh. Choudhary offers a left-arm seam option similar to Khaleel, while Ghosh, a promising right-arm quick, brings added depth with his all-round abilities. Ghosh enjoyed a breakthrough 2025-26 domestic season, highlighted by a stunning 7/42 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy-Maharashtra's best-ever List A bowling figures-and a quickfire unbeaten 64 against Mumbai.
The five-time champions have managed just two wins from five matches so far and face a crucial test ahead against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad, as they look to navigate a mounting injury crisis.
