Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri is recovering after heart surgery for atrial fibrillation, and Lazio expects a swift return. The 66-year-old could be back on the touchline when the Biancocelesti face Napoli
at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
The club has stated that assistant coach Marco Ianni is leading training while Maurizio Sarri rests. Lazio plans for Sarri to resume daily duties within the next few days, depending on medical advice after post-operation checks and monitoring.
Lazio confirmed that Maurizio Sarri underwent a catheter ablation procedure in Rome on Monday to correct the atrial fibrillation. The condition had caused an irregular heartbeat and increased Sarri’s risk of stroke, so specialists recommended immediate intervention.
The operation on Maurizio Sarri was carried out by Professor Andrea Natale, with Lazio medical staff involved. The club reported that the surgery had "a positive outcome", and club doctor Italo Leo was in attendance during the procedure to follow Sarri’s status closely.
