Syndrela Das has continued her merry run with a double medal outing in the 30th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships in Thailand.
The Indian table tennis prodigy produced a memorable campaign at the ITTF-ATTU 30th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships, held from June 28 to July 4, 2026, at Bangkokthonburi Hall in Bangkok, Thailand.
She secured two medals - a silver in the U19 girls' doubles and a bronze in the U19 girls' singles - emerging as one of Team India's brightest stars in the continental youth event.
U19 Girls' Doubles: Silver Medal Glory
Partnering with Divyanshi Bhowmick, the top-seeded Indian duo delivered a strong run to the final. They defeated Thailand's pair 3-0 in the quarterfinals before pulling off a thrilling 3-2 semifinal victory over China's Yao Ruixuan and Jiang
Yiyi (7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-6).
In a hard-fought final, they fell 2-3 to Japan's Aoba Takahashi and Misuzu Takeya, settling for a well-deserved silver. The duo were leading 2-1 after 3rd set, but lost the final two. This marked India's third medal in girls' doubles at the Asian Youth Championships in recent history.
U19 Girls' Singles: Bronze Medal Breakthrough
In singles, Syndrela Das showcased resilience and skill. She caused an early upset by defeating China's Yao Ruixuan in the pre-quarterfinals, then edged Japan's Yuna Ojio 4-3 (11-5, 11-7, 5-11, 3-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-3) in a seven-game quarterfinal thriller to reach the semifinals.
This guaranteed India its first U19 women's singles medal in four years. She ultimately claimed bronze after a semifinal exit against Chinese Taipei's Su Tsz Tung.
Divyanshi Bhowmick wins U19 Mixed Doubles
Divyanshi also had a fantastic outing. Along with Abhinandh Pradhibadhi, she won the Bronze Medal in the mixed doubles category, showcasing her quality in the youth ranks as well.
Team India's Overall Haul: Four Medals
Syndrela's medals formed a key part of India's impressive tally of four medals at the championships-
- U19 Boys' Team: Bronze
- U19 Mixed Doubles: Bronze (P.B. Abhinandh / Divyanshi Bhowmick)
- U19 Girls' Doubles: Silver (Syndrela Das / Divyanshi Bhowmick)
- U19 Girls' Singles: Bronze (Syndrela Das)
The girls' team events did not yield additional podium finishes, but the individual and doubles successes has highlighted India's growing depth in youth table tennis.
Syndrela Das, already a multiple-time national champion and standout in WTT Youth events and Feeder events, confirmed her status as a future leader for Indian table tennis. Her composure under pressure, ability to recover from deficits, and victories over strong Chinese and Japanese opponents stood out in a highly competitive field dominated by East Asian powerhouses like Japan and China.
The Kolkata-born youngster will be part of India's squad for the Asian Games and Commonwealth Championships, but her next mission is set to be the UTT 2026 Championships, where Syndrela will represent Dempo Goa Challengers.
