Afghanistan's challenging start to the 2026 T20 World Cup has taken an unexpected turn off the field, with their performance analyst KC Ramasubramanian hospitalised in New Delhi after suffering a minor heart attack.
The incident occurred shortly after the team arrived in the capital for their upcoming Group D clash against the UAE on Monday. According to TOI monitoring the situation, the medical emergency was addressed swiftly.
"Yes, the Afghanistan team's performance analyst experienced chest pain yesterday. He had suffered a mild heart attack and was taken to the Fortis hospital. He was given angioplasty and is out of danger and doing better now," the source said.
The positive update has brought relief to the Afghan camp, where Ramasubramanian
is regarded as a well-respected and popular figure among the players. Based in Chennai, he has been closely involved with the team's preparations and analytical support.
The health scare comes at a difficult time for Afghanistan, who are yet to register a win in the tournament. Led by Rashid Khan, the side began their campaign with a five-wicket defeat to New Zealand in Chennai despite posting a competitive total of 182. Their second outing proved even more dramatic, as they were edged out by South Africa in a gripping encounter that required two Super Overs to determine the winner after both teams finished tied on 187.
With two losses from two matches, Afghanistan now face a must-win situation against the UAE to keep their hopes alive in Group D. As the team regroups ahead of Monday's fixture, the encouraging news regarding Ramasubramanian's recovery will serve as a morale boost during a testing phase of their campaign.
While performances on the field remain under scrutiny, the immediate focus within the camp is on health and stability as they look to steady their tournament journey.
