Rangers powered into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals with an 8-0 win over Queen's Park at Ibrox, as Danny Rohl praised a controlled and clinical display that also allowed Rangers to erase memories of last season’s surprise cup exit to the same opposition.
Ryan Naderi made the most of a first competitive start by scoring after eight minutes, setting the tone for a one-sided contest against the Championship’s bottom club, before further goals from James Tavernier, Matty Shiels, Bojan Miovski and Tochi Chukwuani completed the emphatic scoreline.
Tavernier dominated the first half, hitting a hat-trick before the interval with goals in the 18th, 26th and 39th minutes, while a Matty Shiels own goal added to Queen's Park’s problems and ensured Rangers
already led 5-0 by half-time in this Scottish Cup tie.
Naderi struck again early in the second half to secure a brace, before Miovski and Chukwuani both found the net later on, giving Rangers eight goals overall and leaving Queen's Park with no response as the hosts showed little mercy in their Scottish Cup meeting.
"You never know what will happen in a cup game, you have to take it very seriously. Today, we did our job," Rohl said.Rohl highlighted how this Scottish Cup run is helping build belief within the squad.18' 26' 39' A first-half hat-trick for the skipper! pic.twitter.com/nLYjLJOUthRangers Football Club (@RangersFC) February 8, 2026
Reflecting further on the performance, Rohl said: "It was very professional. We scored early. This is always helpful in such a game. It was about being hungry for more. When I took over, it was about finding a group to find wins and get balance. Now, win by win, we feel the confidence. Everyone is now focused on the next game because we have a big week ahead. "
On the opposite side, Queen's Park manager Sean Crighton criticised the display but stressed the players must respond quickly as the league campaign continues alongside the Scottish Cup. "We didn’t turn up on the day, and that’s not something I’ve said too often about this group," Crighton said. "We were miles off it. We got the basics wrong all over the pitch, set-plays. Obviously, it’s very difficult being 5-0 down at half-time. This is going to hurt, but the players need to use that hurt. We need to move on and not feel sorry for ourselves. "
The result strengthened Rangers’ growing confidence under Rohl, with an 8-0 scoreline underlining momentum going into a demanding week, while Queen's Park left Ibrox facing the reality of a heavy defeat yet also a clear message from Crighton to learn quickly and reset after this Scottish Cup loss.
