Tim David, the explosive Australian all-rounder, has been ruled out of the remainder of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season after sustaining a Grade 2 hamstring strain.
The injury occurred on December 26, during Hobart Hurricanes' four-wicket victory over Perth Scorchers at Perth Stadium, where David retired hurt after scoring a crucial 42 off 28 balls while running between the wickets.
This marks his second hamstring setback in 2025, following a significant strain during IPL 2025 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru that sidelined him for two months and forced him to miss key playoff matches.
Scans confirmed the right hamstring injury, prompting immediate rehab focus. The Australian has suffered a Grade 2 strain on his hamstring, which thus ended
his BBL chances.
Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis voiced optimism, noting David's vital role in Australia's T20 World Cup campaign starting February 7 next year in India and Sri Lanka.
"David's rehabilitation timeline has him tracking to be available for selection for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup," Hobart Hurricanes wrote in an official statement.
Amid his injury, the concern lingers for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well, who retained him for the IPL 2026 season.
Will Tim David play in IPL 2026?
David suffered a Grade 2 strain, which is generally a moderate issue. As per medical experts, a Grade 2 Hamstring strain generally takes 4-6 weeks to recover, which makes the Australian on course for T20 World Cup. But if the recovery delays or complications occur, then the timeline can be as long as 12 weeks.
In that case, Tim David will miss the T20 World Cup, but he is unlikely to miss IPL 2026. Even if it takes the longest for him to recover, the swashbuckling all-rounder is likely to get fit when the IPL commences in late March, thus giving RCB ample time.
