Martin O'Neill will continue to manage Celtic temporarily, with Shaun Maloney assisting, as the club searches for a new manager. Brendan Rodgers resigned last month, and since then, O'Neill has led the team
in four matches. He previously managed Celtic from 2000 to 2005. The club is considering several candidates for the position.
Currently, Wilfried Nancy of Columbus Crew is the leading candidate to become the new manager of the Scottish champions. Reports indicate that Nancy has initiated discussions with Celtic, but no official announcement has been made yet. O'Neill is expected to be on the sidelines for Saturday's match against St. Mirren.
Celtic confirmed via Twitter that Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney will remain in charge of first-team matters until a permanent manager is appointed. This decision ensures continuity as the club navigates this transitional period.
O'Neill expressed his willingness to lead the team against St. Mirren if no new appointment is made soon. "If there's not an announcement now in the next few days, then I'm happy to still be here for the weekend game against St. Mirren," he told Celtic TV.
The interim management team prioritises player fitness as they return from international duties. With several injuries affecting the squad, maintaining player health is crucial for upcoming matches. O'Neill hopes to have a similar squad available as in their previous game against Kilmarnock.
Celtic currently sits second in the Scottish Premiership table, trailing leaders Hearts by seven points but with a game in hand. Under O'Neill's temporary leadership, Celtic has won both league games and reached the Scottish League Cup final despite a Europa League loss to Midtjylland.
The club aims to maintain strong performances while awaiting further developments regarding their managerial situation.
