UP Warriorz have been dealt a significant setback in the ongoing Women's Premier League, with Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an injury.
The development comes at a critical stage of the league, with the Warriorz struggling near the bottom of the points table and fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Why Phoebe Litchfield has been ruled out
While the franchise has not disclosed the exact nature of Litchfield's injury, the WPL confirmed that the Aussie has been declared unfit for the rest of the season after a quad injury. The announcement was made through an official league release, bringing an abrupt end to what has been a breakthrough WPL campaign for the Australian star, who now heads home for rehab ahead of the Australia vs
India series.
Litchfield had been one of the standout performers of WPL 2026, providing consistency and momentum at the top and middle order for UP Warriorz.
Phoebe Litchfield's Impact in WPL 2026
Playing her first season in the league, Litchfield emerged as UP Warriorz's leading run-scorer. She accumulated 243 runs in six matches and a strike rate of 157, underlining her ability to score quickly while maintaining control.
Her tally included two half-centuries, along with 30 fours and 10 sixes, and at the time of her injury, she was placed third on the Orange Cap leaderboard, behind Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur. Her absence leaves a major gap in an already underperforming UPW batting lineup.
Who is Replacing Phoebe Litchfield?
Up Warriorz have named Amy Jones as Litchfield's injury replacement for the remainder of the season. The England wicketkeeper-batter has been signed for ₹50 lakh, as confirmed by the WPL in an official statement.
She has featured in 125 T20Is and has 1,666 T20I runs to her name. Amy will be joining the squad immediately.
Jones brings extensive international experience and offers flexibility as both a top-order batter and a wicketkeeping option - an area where the Warriorz have lacked stability this season.
What this means for UP Warriorz
Currently placed at the bottom of the table with two wins from six matches and a net run rate of -0.769, UP Warriorz face a steep climb. They still have fixtures against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals, and will likely need big-margin victories alongside favourable results elsewhere.
The loss of Litchfield weakens their batting core, but Jones' arrival offers experience and composure as the team looks to salvage its campaign.
