Lucknow Super Giants' explosive opener Mitchell Marsh has etched his name into the franchise's record books as the first batter to score three 50-plus knocks inside the powerplay in IPL history for LSG.
The Australian all-rounder's latest fireworks came in the high-voltage clash in the IPL 2026 clash against CSK, where he bludgeoned a 56 off just 22 balls, setting a scorching tone that powered LSG to a competitive total. Marsh's powerplay masterclass against CSK was clinical.
Facing a CSK attack missing key pacers due to injury, he took apart Matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja, smashing six boundaries and three sixes in the first six overs alone. The innings, unbeaten on 56, came at a strike rate of 254.54 and helped LSG recover from an early
wobble after losing the toss.
Though CSK restricted LSG to 178/7, Marsh's blitz kept the home side in the contest until the death overs. This was Marsh's third such feat for LSG. He had earlier blasted 60* off 30 against Mumbai Indians in Lucknow in 2025 and followed it up with a 58* off 24 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this season.
No other LSG batter has managed even two powerplay fifties. Kyle Mayers came closest with twin 53s in 2023, while new recruit Josh Inglis recently posted a blistering 77* off 25 against CSK in Chennai this year - yet still trails Marsh's consistency. What makes Marsh's record remarkable is the context. LSG have often struggled for explosive starts in the powerplay since their inception, relying heavily on Mayers and, later, Quinton de Kock.
Marsh's arrival as a marquee overseas pick has changed that narrative. His three half-centuries in the first six overs have directly contributed to four LSG wins this season, proving he is far more than a middle-order anchor. At 37, Marsh continues to defy age with bat and ball.
