Vadodara, Feb 3: The Delhi Capitals have cemented their status as the most consistent franchise in Women's Premier League history, qualifying for their fourth consecutive final with a commanding seven-wicket victory over the Gujarat Giants in the WPL 2026 at the BCA Stadium, Kotambi on Tuesday (February 3).
Chasing a competitive target of 169, Delhi's batting lineup dismantled the Gujarat attack, crossing the finish line with 4.2 overs to spare. They will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the summit clash on February 5.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Delhi Capitals' skipper Jemimah Rodrigues looked to exploit the early moisture. The decision paid dividends immediately as the Giants' top order crumbled under pressure.
The Gujarat
Giants slumped to a precarious 48/3 inside the powerplay, with key batter Sophie Devine departing cheaply for just 6 runs. It was left to captain Beth Mooney to salvage the innings. Displaying characteristic grit, Mooney anchored the side with a composed 62 off 51 balls, finding gaps and rotating the strike to arrest the slide.
However, the Giants struggled to find momentum at the other end. Delhi's bowling unit, led by the impressive Chinelle Henry, kept a tight leash on the scoring rate. Henry was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 35 and breaking crucial partnerships just as Gujarat looked to accelerate. Nandani Sharma also chipped in with a valuable spell, finishing with figures of 2 for 44. Despite a late flurry that pushed the total to 168/7, the score felt slightly under par on a surface that improved for batting under lights.
In reply, the Delhi Capitals launched a blistering assault that effectively killed the contest within the first six overs. Openers Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma came out with clear intent, decimating the Gujarat new-ball attack. Lee was particularly severe, smashing a rapid 43 off 24 balls, while Verma contributed a quickfire 31. Their aggressive stand propelled Delhi to 75 runs in the powerplay, demoralizing the Giants' fielders and bowlers alike.
Following the openers' departure, Jemimah Rodrigues took center stage. The captain played a Player-of-the-Match knock, scoring an unbeaten 41 off just 23 deliveries. Rodrigues combined elegance with power, piercing the field with surgical precision. She found an able partner in Marizanne Kapp, who applied the finishing touches. Kapp sealed the victory in style, lofting a delivery over mid-off to secure the win in the 16th over. The comprehensive nature of the chase highlighted the gulf in class between the two sides on the night.
While the Gujarat Giants will rue their top-order collapse, the Delhi Capitals march on to yet another final, hoping to break their curse of three consecutive runner-up finishes.
Brief Score:
Gujarat Giants 168/7 in 20 overs (Beth Mooney 62, Sophie Devine 6; Chinelle Henry 3/35, Nandani Sharma 2/44) lost to Delhi Capitals 169/3 in 15.4 overs (Lizelle Lee 43, Jemimah Rodrigues 41, Shafali Verma 31; Georgia Wareham 1/28) by 7 wickets.
