Liverpool vs Wolves: Diogo Jota's sons to be Mascots in Premier League Clash

Diogo Jota's sons, Dinis and Duarte, will serve as mascots for Liverpool's Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday.

This marks the first encounter between the Portugal star's former clubs since his tragic death in a car crash alongside his brother Andre Silva in Spain's Zamora province back in early July.

Jota's two sons will join the players on the pitch before kickoff, turning the event into a deeply moving moment. Liverpool has invited Jota's family as special guests.

The family also attended Liverpool's season-opening league game against Bournemouth in August, where mosaics in two stands showed 'DJ 20' and 'AS 30' during a minute's silence. A Kop banner read: 'Rute, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda - Anfield will always

be your home. ' Mafalda is Jota's daughter, born last year.

In response to the July tragedy, Liverpool retired Jota's No. 20 shirt and announced a memorial sculpture at Anfield as the centerpiece of a lasting tribute to the 28-year-old striker, who netted 65 goals across 182 appearances for the club.

In his match programme notes, Liverpool boss Arne Slot reflected, "Reflecting on everything that has happened over the last 12 months ignites a rollercoaster of emotions but it is normal at this time of year to look back to everything that has happened. Doing so leads me to think especially of the family of Diogo Jota on what will be their first Christmas without him. It is not my place to tell them where they should look for comfort - if that is even possible - but I can only hope that the feeling of love and affection that Diogo still generates brings them some solace. "

The Reds have made a dismal start to the Premier League campaign as they are currently placed 6th in the table with 29 points in 17 matches. Wolves, on the other hand, are yet to win a league match this season, as they languish at the bottom with just 2 points.
