Fernandinho, the former Manchester City and Brazil midfielder, has decided to retire from professional football. At 40, he played his final match in a charity event at Arena da Baixada. This marked the end
of his career with Athletico Paranaense, where he began his journey in 2024.
During his time at Shakhtar Donetsk, Fernandinho was instrumental in securing six league titles and the 2009 UEFA Cup, now known as the Europa League. His success there paved the way for a move to Manchester City. In Manchester, he achieved five Premier League titles and lifted the EFL Cup six times.
Fernandinho made significant contributions at Manchester City, ranking eighth in Premier League appearances for the club with 264 matches. He scored 20 goals and provided 19 assists during this period. Additionally, he recorded 380 interceptions, placing him fifth in this category for the club.

With Brazil, Fernandinho's notable achievement was winning the Copa America in 2019. He also participated in World Cup finals on ten occasions and managed to score once during these tournaments.
Reflecting on his career after the charity match, Fernandinho shared with GeGlobo: "I already got tired running for 30 minutes today. In football, there's nothing that motivates me anymore. Everything I could enjoy, I enjoyed. Now, it's time to enjoy time with the family. "
The decision to retire marks a new chapter for Fernandinho as he looks forward to spending more time with his family after an illustrious career on the field.
