Alpine Confirms Franco Colapinto As Driver For 2026 Season Alongside Pierre Gasly

Alpine has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will join Pierre Gasly in their driver lineup for 2026. Colapinto, who transitioned from Williams to Alpine at the start of the year as a reserve driver, stepped

up to replace Jack Doohan after six races in the 2025 season. Despite being the only current driver without a championship point, he has outperformed Gasly in three of the last six races.

Colapinto's performance has shown steady improvement throughout the season. Alpine noted his growing potential and positive rapport with the team and engineers. Flavio Briatore, Alpine's executive advisor, initially expressed dissatisfaction with Colapinto's summer performances. However, his subsequent progress secured him another season. "I've been following Franco's progress throughout his time in Formula 1 and I have always believed that he has the right attributes and potential to be a top driver who can grow with the team," said Briatore. The decision to retain him for 2026 reflects Alpine's commitment to nurturing his talent.
