Alpine has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will join Pierre Gasly in their driver lineup for 2026. Colapinto, who transitioned from Williams to Alpine at the start of the year as a reserve driver, stepped
up to replace Jack Doohan after six races in the 2025 season. Despite being the only current driver without a championship point, he has outperformed Gasly in three of the last six races.
Colapinto's performance has shown steady improvement throughout the season. Alpine noted his growing potential and positive rapport with the team and engineers. "Franco has shown promise and potential with gradual improvement across the season," stated Alpine. His ability to challenge Gasly demonstrates his development as a competitive driver.

Flavio Briatore, Alpine's executive advisor, initially expressed dissatisfaction with Colapinto's summer performances. However, his subsequent progress secured him another season. "I've been following Franco's progress throughout his time in Formula 1 and I have always believed that he has the right attributes and potential to be a top driver who can grow with the team," said Briatore. The decision to retain him for 2026 reflects Alpine's commitment to nurturing his talent.
Challenges and Team Dynamics
This year has posed challenges for Alpine, yet both Colapinto and Gasly have strived to position the team well for next season. "It has been a tough year for the whole team," noted Briatore, acknowledging their efforts under difficult circumstances. The pairing of Gasly and Colapinto brings a mix of experience and speed, aiming to energise fans next season.
Colapinto made his Formula One debut with Williams last year, stepping in for Logan Sargeant during the summer of 2024. His first race was at the Italian Grand Prix where he finished 12th. He quickly scored points by securing eighth place in Baku shortly after.
The combination of Gasly's experience and Colapinto's emerging talent is expected to propel Alpine forward in 2026. Fans are hopeful that this dynamic duo will bring excitement and success to the team in the upcoming season.
