IND vs SA: India are set to resume their red-ball journey after a brief break, hosting South Africa for a two-match Test series starting November 14 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, with the second Test scheduled
in Guwahati from Nov 22.
The contest promises to be an exciting battle as India face the reigning World Test Championship (WTC) winners on home turf.
Under Shubman Gill's leadership, India's Test side has been on an impressive run. The new era began with a gritty 2-2 draw against England earlier this year, followed by a dominant 2-0 series sweep over the West Indies at home. Now, the focus shifts to a tougher challenge as the WTC Champions arrive, looking to make a statement in subcontinental conditions.
Announcing the squad on Wednesday, November 5, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar confirmed a strong 15-member lineup for the series. The biggest boost for India comes with the return of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has recovered from a foot injury sustained during the England tour. Pant recently featured in an unofficial Test for India A against South Africa A, showcasing his readiness for a return to the longest format.
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who missed the first three T20Is against Australia due to injury, has also earned his Test call-up, adding depth to India's middle order and providing an extra bowling option.
The squad blends experience with youth, balancing proven match-winners and emerging talent. With home conditions likely to favour India's spin attack, the team will rely on a mix of seasoned bowlers to maintain dominance.
As the first ball is set to be bowled in Kolkata on November 14, all eyes will be on Gill's leadership and Pant's much-anticipated comeback. The series marks another step in India's quest to climb the WTC standings and assert their supremacy in Test cricket once again.
India's Test squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK) (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep.
