Nottingham Forest secured a crucial 3-0 victory over Malmo, keeping their Europa League knockout stage hopes alive. Goals from Ryan Yates, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Nikola Milenkovic propelled Sean Dyche's team to 16th place in the standings, just two points shy of the top eight. The match began cautiously, with Nicolas Dominguez narrowly missing an early header before testing Malmo's goalkeeper, Melker Ellborg, with a low shot.
Forest took the lead in the 27th minute when Yates capitalised on Milenkovic's blocked attempt, slotting the ball into the bottom-right corner. Shortly after, Kalimuendo was denied by Ellborg but found the net just before half-time. He volleyed home after Ellborg had saved Yates' header. Malmo struggled to respond and fell
further behind in the 58th minute when Milenkovic scored from close range following a VAR review.
Under Dyche's guidance, Forest have improved defensively, achieving clean sheets in all three of their Europa League matches so far. Malmo posed little threat during the game, managing only one shot on target with an expected goals (xG) value of 0.06. They also failed to make any touches inside Forest's penalty area.
Yates was instrumental for Forest, leading their attacking efforts with four shots, three of which were on target. He also engaged in ten duels and won six of them. Callum Hudson-Odoi nearly added a fourth goal for Forest with a curling shot that struck the crossbar as they comfortably saw out the win.
