Although the Indian Super League is set to be on its way, the ongoing uncertainty and impasse have created havoc in the clubs' finances.
Across the ISL clubs, the financial imbalance has taken a toll on
the players, staff and the people associated with it, including the owners.
After the confirmation of the ISL, reports emerged of clubs asking players and staff for a reduction in salary, and FC Goa was being named as one of them.
MyKhel had a talk with one of the club officials, who remained anonymous and confirmed the developments. The club had a talk with the players immediately after the ISL date was announced. Although a few foreigners decided to move on, the majority of the contingent have accepted a reduction in their salary for the remainder of the season.
And on Thursday, the Gaurs have confirmed that a number of players have gone forward with the 'selfless' decision to reduce their remuneration. Through social media, the club announced that players have continued their services with the club with a truncated salary for the next four months.
"In a moment of real uncertainty for Indian football, our club had honest and difficult conversations about the challenges we are facing. What followed was something that made us incredibly proud. Our First Team players and Technical Staff stepped forward, stood together, and chose to support the club by agreeing to reduce their remuneration during this period. This was not an easy decision. It was a selfless one," a statement from FC Goa read on social media.
"We are deeply humbled by this gesture and immensely grateful for the unity, character, and commitment shown by the group. These moments remind us that this club is more than results on the pitch, it is about people, belief, and standing together when it matters most. Thank you for fighting for the badge. Thank you for believing in the journey. We move forward together," it added.
The ISL 2025-26 (may call it ISL 2026) season is set to commence from February 14 and it will be played in a single leg format among 14 clubs.
