Dambulla: Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi endured a disappointing outing in his first appearance for India A, falling cheaply in the opening match of the tri-nation ODI series against Sri Lanka A.
The 15-year-old, who recently earned a historic call-up to the senior Indian team, opened the innings alongside Prabhsimran Singh but managed just 14 runs off 12 deliveries. His brief knock included three boundaries before he was dismissed by pacer Mohammed Shiraz.
Coming into the match on the back of a stellar IPL season-where he claimed the Orange Cap with over 750 runs for Rajasthan Royals-expectations were high. However, Sooryavanshi was unable to replicate that form on his India A debut.
India A had a shaky start, with Prabhsimran failing
to score in the opening over bowled by Chamika Karunaratne. Sooryavanshi showed early promise, striking crisp boundaries through point and cover, including an impressive shot off Karunaratne.
Despite his positive start, the youngster failed to convert it into a substantial innings. Attempting to loft a full-length delivery from Shiraz, he miscued his shot, with Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige completing a sharp diving catch at mid-off.
