Ranchi, May 24: Sarvesh Kushare is steadily building one of the finest high jump careers Indian athletics has ever seen.
The Maharashtra athlete once again proved his class at the Federation Cup 2026 in Ranchi after clearing 2.28m to win gold and comfortably breach the Commonwealth Games 2026 qualification mark of 2.22m.
He also came agonisingly close to breaking Tejaswin Shankar's national record of 2.29m, narrowly missing the bar in all three attempts.
Sarvesh Kushare's Best Career Jumps
- ✅ 2.28m - World Championships 2025
- ✅ 2.28m - Federation Cup 2026
- ✅ 2.27m - National Games 2023
- ✅ 2.26m - Open Nationals 2019
- ✅ 2.26m - Inter Services 2022
- ✅ 2.26m - Asian Championships 2023
From Asian Championships Heartbreak to World Championship Finalist
Sarvesh's breakthrough phase truly began after the 2023 Asian Championships. Despite clearing 2.26m and producing one of the finest performances of his career, he missed the bronze medal by just 4 centimetres.
But instead of slowing down, the setback only pushed him further. Later that season, he cleared
2.26m again at the Indian Open Athletics Meet in Sangrur and followed it up with victory at the Inter-State Championships with a best jump of 2.24m.
Then came the defining chapter of his career.
Historic World Championships Campaign
At the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Sarvesh Kushare created history for Indian athletics. He first cleared 2.25m in qualification to become the first Indian high jumper ever to qualify for a World Championships final.
Then, on the biggest stage of his career, he soared to a sensational 2.28m in the final to finish sixth overall. The jump became India's second-best high jump performance in history and firmly established Sarvesh among Asia's elite jumpers.
Difficult Start to 2026, Strong Response Thereafter
The 2026 season did not begin smoothly for Sarvesh. He opened with 2.16m at the Indian Open Jumps and later suffered a surprise defeat to local athlete Swadhin Kumar Manjhi at the National Indoor Championships in Bhubaneswar.
But champions respond quickly. At the Indian Athletics Series-1 in Bengaluru, Sarvesh bounced back strongly with a clearance of 2.23m before delivering another world-class 2.28m performance at the Federation Cup.
His consistency at the 2.25m-plus range now signals that Indian high jump may soon witness another national record attempt.
Indian High Jump on the Rise
The Federation Cup final also highlighted the growing depth in Indian men's high jump. Tamil Nadu's Adarsh Ram also breached the Commonwealth Games qualification mark after clearing 2.22m.
With Sarvesh Kushare consistently competing at world-class heights and younger jumpers beginning to emerge, Indian high jump appears to be entering a new era. And for Sarvesh, this may only be the beginning.
