The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reaffirmed its policy barring players' families from joining them in the T20 World Cup.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team, fresh off bilateral series warm-ups, sought exceptions from the board. However, BCCI officials have held firm and have not allowed the players to stay with their family. Families, spouses, fiancees, and children can visit for up to 14 days only on tours exceeding 45 days, but not here.
India players can't stay with family in T20 World Cup
The players won't be able to stay with the family and the BCCI won't also pay for the family. But the players can seperately arrange for their family members and friends for accommodation, as it was confirmed.
"The Indian team management had approached the BCCI to ask whether wives and fiancees
can travel with the team and whether they can also stay with them. The board has made it clear that families won't be staying with the players. They can make separate arrangements, though, if they want to," a BCCI source confirmed Indian Express.
As the Indian team travel across the cities for this World Cup, the players will have to stay with the team at the designated team hotel.
The Indian team started their T20 World Cup campaign with a victory over USA and they will be playing their next match against Namibia on Thursday in Delhi. The Indian team will then travel to Sri Lanka to face arch-rivals Pakistan, who withdrew their boycott as the marquee clash is now back on in its scheduled date.
After the Bangladesh saga, Pakistan threatened to boycott the India match and their Prime Minister even announced it officially. But after a tripartite meeting with ICC and Bangladesh Cricket Board, the PCB has decided to give the green signal to the match. In return, PCB and BCB demanded tri-nation series with India, which has been rejected. But the apex body of world cricket has gone lenient on Bangladesh as no sanction has been taken against them despite withdrawal from the T20 World Cup.
