Zaheer Khan has been appointed the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach ahead of IPL 2027, adding another role to his coaching and management career in the Indian Premier League.
The former India pacer has previously worked with Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants in different capacities. His appointment at CSK will see him take charge as a head coach in the IPL after several years of experience in franchise management and player development.
Mumbai Indians: Director of Cricket Operations
Zaheer joined the Mumbai Indians management setup in December 2018 when he was appointed Director of Cricket Operations.
He worked closely with the franchise's coaching and management staff and was involved in cricket operations, player development and planning. His tenure coincided with Mumbai Indians
winning consecutive IPL titles in 2019 and 2020.
Zaheer had already represented Mumbai Indians during his playing career, making his management role a return to the franchise in a different capacity.
Global Head of Cricket Development
In 2022, Mumbai Indians restructured their management setup and appointed Zaheer as Global Head of Cricket Development.
The position expanded his responsibilities beyond the IPL side, with a focus on talent identification and player development across the franchise's cricket structure.
Zaheer continued in the Mumbai Indians setup until moving on from the franchise before taking up his next IPL assignment.
Lucknow Super Giants Mentor
Zaheer joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as mentor ahead of IPL 2025, taking over the position that had remained vacant following Gautam Gambhir's departure.
His responsibilities at LSG included working with the team's players and coaching staff, while he was also involved with the bowling unit following Morne Morkel's departure.
The former India pacer brought his experience in bowling, squad development and franchise management to the LSG setup.
Zaheer Khan Takes Charge at CSK
Zaheer's move to CSK represents his first assignment as an IPL head coach. He will now oversee the team's coaching setup and preparations for IPL 2027.
The appointment continues Zaheer's progression through IPL management, having previously served as Director of Cricket Operations, Global Head of Cricket Development and mentor before taking charge of CSK.
