Vitinha is urging Paris Saint-Germain to push standards even higher in 2026 after a dominant 2025, warning that the squad must build on a year of historic success rather than settle. The midfielder, who finished third in the 2025 Ballon d'Or voting, believes the team can raise levels again despite already collecting six major trophies across the calendar year.
Under Luis Enrique, PSG are again strong in 2025-26. The team sits second in Ligue 1 heading into the new year, only one point behind leaders Lens. In the Champions League group, PSG stand third, which keeps qualification hopes alive but does not yet guarantee an automatic place in the next phase.
PSG's challenge for the coming year follows a campaign that brought a historic treble. The
club captured Ligue 1, lifted the Coupe de France and then secured a first-ever Champions League title. Across that league season, PSG collected 84 points, the highest total recorded in an 18-team Ligue 1 format, underlining consistent control.
The French champions also posted the strongest points-per-game figure among Europe's top five leagues last term, averaging 2.47. That efficiency set the base for continental success, as Luis Enrique's side maintained high standards across domestic and European fixtures, limiting dropped points while rotating a deep squad through multiple competitions.
On the European stage, PSG delivered a statement in the Champions League final by beating Inter 5-0. That scoreline became the largest winning margin in the competition's showpiece match. The victory also meant PSG joined an elite group as the ninth European club to complete a treble and the first from France to achieve that feat.
The club then carried that form into global competition. In July, PSG advanced to the Club World Cup final, where Chelsea won 3-0. Despite that defeat, the run confirmed PSG's ability to compete with champions from other confederations, following what Vitinha described as an exceptional tournament across earlier rounds.
| Competition | Trophy won by PSG in 2025 |
|---|---|
| Ligue 1 | Champions |
| Coupe de France | Winners |
| Champions League | Winners |
| Trophee des Champions | Winners |
| UEFA Super Cup | Winners |
| Intercontinental Cup | Winners |
Those achievements meant PSG collected six trophies during the 2025 calendar year. Beyond the treble, the team added the Trophee des Champions, the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. That volume of silverware framed the debate over whether the campaign could be described as flawless, especially after the Club World Cup near miss against Chelsea.
Vitinha reflected on that debate when speaking to Marca. "Can we call it a perfect season? Yes, or almost," he told the Spanish outlet, before admitting that the Club World Cup remained the one major frustration after such a dominant sequence of results for PSG across multiple competitions.
Vitinha expanded on those feelings, saying: "We can regret not winning the Club World Cup, but the truth is that we were once again there at the decisive moment after an exceptional tournament, and we narrowly missed out. And also, because Chelsea were better, it has to be said. But 2025 was a perfect year, or almost, and I'm very happy to have had such a great season with the whole team. Now, we have to keep this momentum going, aim even higher, and if possible, do better than these six titles. "
Data from the Opta supercomputer reflects both the strength of PSG and the difficulty of repeating such a year. Current projections give Luis Enrique's side an 87.3% chance of winning Ligue 1 again, while the probability of a second straight Champions League title stands at 10%, placing PSG as the fourth favourites for Europe's main club competition.
That statistical outlook underlines the scale of Vitinha's challenge to the squad. After a campaign where records fell in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, PSG now attempt to defend domestic dominance and back-to-back European crowns. The ambition inside the club remains clear, even with the understanding that matching six titles will be demanding.
