Luka Modric struck an 85th-minute winner as AC Milan edged Pisa 2-1 in Serie A, despite Adrien Rabiot’s late red card. The result keeps Massimiliano Allegri’s side within reach of leaders Inter, with Milan now five points behind after 24 league matches of the campaign.
The decisive goal underlined Modric’s longevity. At 40 years and 157 days, Modric became the third-oldest scorer in Serie A history. Only Alessandro Costacurta, at 41 years and 25 days, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, at 41 years and 166 days, have found the net at an older age.
The win also strengthened AC Milan’s overall Serie A record this season. Milan have matched their second-highest points total after 24 league games in the three-points-for-a-win era, with only the 61-point haul
in 2003-04 standing higher. Underlying numbers backed the result, as Milan created stronger chances than Pisa across the match.

Earlier, AC Milan had to absorb pressure from Pisa. Filip Stojilkovic broke clear on goal in a major first-half chance, but Mike Maignan sprinted out and blocked the effort. That stop proved important, as Milan then struck before the interval through Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s powerful header from Zachary Athekame’s accurate right-sided cross.
AC Milan reshaped their attack at half-time when Niclas Fullkrug entered for the second period. The substitute could have doubled the lead after Strahinja Pavlovic drew a foul from Felipe Loyola inside the penalty area. Fullkrug stepped up, but the striker’s spot kick grazed the outside of the left post and stayed out.
Pisa then punished AC Milan’s wasteful finishing. A loose ball ran kindly for Loyola inside the box, and the defender drove a low strike into the bottom-right corner. Milan responded with quality as Modric played a neat one-two with Samuele Ricci, slipped past Simone Canestrelli’s challenge, then slid the ball beyond goalkeeper Nicolas.

AC Milan and Luka Modric close out tense Serie A finish
The closing minutes brought extra pressure on AC Milan after Rabiot’s dismissal. Rabiot collected two yellow cards within 20 seconds, first for a foul on the edge of the box and then for dissent. Milan, reduced to ten players, defended the lead with determination and secured three points that keep Inter within a single two-match swing.
