Daniele De Rossi has been appointed as the new head coach of Genoa. This follows the dismissal of Patrick Vieira, who was let go after a winless start to the Serie A season. De Rossi, a former Roma legend,
is expected to lead the team until the end of the season, according to Italian media reports.
Genoa confirmed that De Rossi will conduct Thursday's training session and will be officially introduced on Friday. His first match in charge will be against Fiorentina on Sunday. Fiorentina is also searching for a new manager after parting ways with Stefano Pioli earlier this week.

De Rossi's managerial career includes stints at SPAL and Roma. At SPAL, he managed for four months from October 2022 to February 2023. He then took over at Roma in January 2024, succeeding Jose Mourinho. During his time there, he led Roma to the Europa League final in the 2023-24 season but was dismissed early in the following campaign.
Under Vieira's leadership, Genoa struggled significantly, losing six out of their first nine matches in the current Serie A season. However, they managed to secure their first victory against Sassuolo with a score of 2-1 on Monday. Despite this win, Genoa remains in a precarious position, sitting 18th in the league standings with just six points.
This appointment marks De Rossi's third managerial role. His previous experience includes managing SPAL and Roma. At Roma, he achieved a win rate of 46.7% over 30 matches and led them to a Europa League final appearance before being replaced after a poor start to the next season.
As De Rossi steps into his new role at Genoa, he faces significant challenges ahead. The team is currently struggling near the bottom of the Serie A table and needs a turnaround to avoid relegation threats. His immediate task will be to prepare for Sunday's match against Fiorentina.
The club hopes that De Rossi's leadership can bring stability and improved performances on the pitch. With his experience as both a player and manager at top levels, expectations are high for him to make an impact quickly.
