Eddie Howe enjoyed a memorable birthday as Newcastle United secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium. This marked Newcastle's first away win in the Premier League this season. Malick Thiaw scored the fastest goal of the season, just 55 seconds into the match, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade added to the scoreline before halftime.
Howe expressed his delight with the team's performance, especially on his birthday. "Yeah, a perfect way to celebrate the birthday," he said. "I was saying earlier I've had birthdays where we haven't got a good result, and trust me, they aren't the birthdays you want. " He credited tactical adjustments and player execution for their success. "We
tweaked things tactically, and we have been doing that regularly to try and find a formula," Howe explained.
Thiaw's second-half goal further cemented Newcastle's lead, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored a consolation goal for Everton. This victory was Newcastle's largest away win against a non-promoted team since April 2023 when they also defeated Everton 4-1. The triumph was particularly sweet for Howe, who turned 48 in style.
Thiaw's early goal was significant as it was the quickest home goal conceded by Everton in the Premier League since August 2014. He became the first player to score his maiden Premier League goal in the opening minute since Kenedy for Chelsea in March 2016. Additionally, Thiaw is the first Newcastle player to score headed goals in one Premier League match since Georginio Wijnaldum in October 2015.

"I'm grateful, it is an incredible moment for me," Thiaw told Sky Sports about his achievement. "The Newcastle fans have welcomed me like it is my new home so I am really grateful. " He expressed gratitude for his current experiences and acknowledged the support from fans and teammates.
Miley's Impressive Contribution
Lewis Miley showcased his talent with an outstanding midfield performance. He assisted Thiaw's opener with a well-delivered corner and later scored himself following an error by Jordan Pickford. At just 19 years and 212 days old, Miley became Newcastle's second-youngest player to both score and assist in one Premier League match.
"Very strong from Lewis," Howe praised Miley's maturity despite his young age. "Lewis is someone who's so young but just plays with such maturity, which belies his years. " Howe highlighted Miley's technical skills and ability to win crucial second balls in midfield.
This victory not only ended Newcastle's nine-match winless streak on the road but also provided them with much-needed momentum moving forward in their campaign.
