ONE Fight Night 40: Nico Carrillo Seeks Redemption With Perfect Performance

Power has always been Nico Carrillo's calling card, but the Scottish knockout artist now seeks perfection when he faces Thailand's Shadow Singha Mawynn for the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Title in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 40 on 14 February.

Carrillo has established himself as one of the most dangerous finishers in striking with his devastating knockout power. However, for this interim title bout, the "King of the North" seeks more than just another knockout. Carrillo wants to deliver a complete performance that looks as beautiful as it is effective.

"I can bring my power out in any fight and put anybody away, but sometimes it's not prettier than that, so I want to make this fight look, for the fans and for me watching

it back, as beautiful and as perfect as I can," Carrillo said.

His opponent, 25-year-old Shadow from Singha Mawynn gym, brings a 6-2 ONE record with three finishes. The Thai striker has been phenomenal in Muay Thai competition and earned his six-figure main roster contract through impressive performances on ONE Friday Fights.

Carrillo has studied Shadow extensively and respects the Thai fighter's well-rounded skill set. The Scottish striker acknowledges his opponent's rough start in ONE Championship before finding his rhythm and building impressive momentum.

"Shadow's just all-round good. He's good at everything. He had a bit of a rocky start when he came to ONE Championship, and then found his feet, and he's just been on the same kind of trajectory as myself," Carrillo said.

For Carrillo, this fight represents another step toward his ultimate goal rather than personal rivalry. The "King of the North" has never based his motivation on hatred or desire to defeat specific opponents, focusing instead on ONE World Title gold.

"For me, it's never an opposition. For me, it's just whoever holds the gold. That's always my goal. I've never had hatred for anyone. I've never wanted to fight a certain person. I just wanted to fight for gold, and that's still the case," Carrillo said.
