Delhi Capitals sank to a new low as they suffered a crushing defeat in their home to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Put in to bat first, the Capitals were bundled out for only 75 runs, thereby losing by nine wickets. The batting collapse shocked fans at a venue that saw the highest successful run chase just days before. The result pushed Delhi to seventh place on the points table with just three wins from eight matches.
The innings fell apart almost at once, as Delhi lost six wickets for eight runs inside the powerplay. Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar used swing and bounce with great control, often beating batters. Delhi's top order struggled to adjust, and the slide continued without any meaningful stand to steady the innings.
DC vs RCB: Timid Batting Approach From The Capitals
The poor effort
from the Capitals came just days after they had been part of a successful 265-run chase at the same ground, underscoring how surprising Delhi's timid reply was. Instead of another high-scoring contest, Royal Challengers Bengaluru controlled the match from the first over. Their bowlers set attacking fields, dictated the tempo, and turned the game into one of the season's most one-sided collapses.
Delhi's approach with the bat raised sharp questions about both technique and mindset under pressure. The surface tested judgment outside off stump and against the short ball, yet Delhi's batters showed little composure. As the innings spiralled, it was clear that the side failed to match Royal Challengers Bengaluru's discipline with the ball and in the field.
DC vs RCB Reaction: Co-owner Parth Jindal
Skipper Axar Patel admitted that the heavy defeat left many in the dressing room confused, even as attention already shifted to the next match. "I still don't understand what happened. But everyone says that in cricket, every day you have to be on your toes, and you have to come back and do the same things again and again. But yes, when you go into the next match, you have to forget this and move on," Axar told broadcasters.
Meanwhile, Co-owner Parth Jindal tried to lift spirits after the nine-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, posting a rallying message for the squad. "Stay together more than ever now @DelhiCapitals - really very tough to take, but we must keep fighting and keep believing," Jindal wrote on X. The message underlined a push for unity at a time when scrutiny over selection and tactics, including questions around Prithvi Shaw's absence, had increased.
The back-to-back defeats left Delhi Capitals with little room for mistakes in the rest of the league stage. With momentum slipping and competition for the top four tightening, every remaining fixture carried extra weight. The team now needed stronger starts, clearer plans, and calmer responses under pressure to stay in contention for a playoff spot.
