Chennai Super Kings pacer Jamie Overton has created a unique record in the ongoing IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday (May 10).
Jamie Overton etched his name into Chennai Super Kings' record books on Sunday as the first CSK seamer to claim three wickets in the middle overs on two separate occasions in an IPL season.
The England all-rounder's fiery spell helped restrict Lucknow Super Giants to 203/8 in Match 53 of IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
LSG were cruising at 112/3 in the 9th over, powered by Josh Inglis' blistering 85 off just 33 balls. Overton, brought into the attack, produced a game-changing double in the space of four deliveries. First, he induced a top-edged scoop from Inglis that Sanju Samson pouched sharply
behind the stumps.
Three balls later, Rishabh Pant chopped a hard-length delivery onto his stumps for 15. The Chepauk crowd erupted as Overton roared in celebration. He returned in the 14th over to complete his three-for, inducing a miscued loft from Akshat Raghuwanshi that Urvil Patel swallowed at mid-off.
Overton finished with impressive figures of 4-0-36-3. This was Overton's second such middle-overs masterclass of the season. He had earlier taken 3/23 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad.

Only four other CSK seamers - Justin Kemp (2010 vs KKR), Matheesha Pathirana (2024 vs MI), and Simarjeet Singh (2024 vs RR) - had previously achieved a three-wicket haul in overs 7-15 of an IPL innings.
The spell turned the game decisively in CSK's favour after LSG's explosive start, underlining Overton's growing stature as a death-over specialist and middle-overs enforcer.
