India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl first in the fourth T20I against New Zealand on January 28, citing pitch conditions and the expected impact of dew later in the evening.
Explaining the decision at the toss, Suryakumar said, "We will look to bowl first as it looks like a good wicket. We saw a lot of dew last night, so batting would be easier in the second innings. We need to execute our plans and enjoy our game. The boys are charged up for the match. "
New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner said he would have opted to bowl as well, highlighting similar assessments of the surface and conditions.
"It looks like a good wicket, and the dew has already set in. The runs are important to challenge the Indian team, and we know
about their quality. Most of the guys who are in the World Cup squad are here. We hope to get similar wickets in the World Cup," Santner said.
