Luciano Spalletti praised Juventus for a victory that, in his view, carried extra weight, after a 1-0 success over Atalanta lifted the team into the Serie A top four. Jeremie Boga scored the only goal at New Balance Arena in the second half, deciding a match where Juventus often had to defend and accept long spells without control.
Although the scoreline was narrow, the result strengthened Juventus’ recent league form under Spalletti. The team are now unbeaten in at least six successive Serie A fixtures for the second time with Spalletti in charge, recording four wins and two draws in this latest run, and four victories in the last five league games, each achieved with a clean sheet.
Spalletti’s first extended unbeaten spell with Juventus came
between December and January, when the side collected five wins and one draw. This latest sequence again underlines a strong defensive base, as Juventus have conceded in none of their last four league victories. That stability helped compensate for an attacking display in Bergamo that produced limited chances and relied on efficiency.
Atalanta created more openings throughout the match, yet Juventus were more ruthless in the key moment. The hosts attempted 22 shots and generated 1.67 expected goals, while Juventus produced only seven efforts, with a combined expected goals figure of 0.63. Despite that imbalance, Boga’s clinical finish proved enough to damage Atalanta’s Champions League push and boost Juventus’ top-four prospects.
| Team | Goals | Shots | Expected Goals (xG) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atalanta | 0 | 22 | 1.67 |
| Juventus | 1 | 7 | 0.63 |
Spalletti admitted Juventus struggled badly early on against an Atalanta side that pressed aggressively and moved the ball with greater fluency. Explaining those opening problems, Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia: "The first half-hour, we suffered a lot, because Atalanta are a good team, and we were unable to string passes together in any situation, as they were constantly pressing us. These are games that are worth more than three points. Unfortunately, we werent in the best shape coming into the match, because Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao both had fitness problems. "

Spalletti detailed how fitness worries shaped Juventus’ selection and performance levels in Bergamo. "I chose to start them and see how theyd do. They were both a little below-par, Thuram had an issue, too. Atalanta were far more tuned into the tempo of the game early on, more precise in their movements from right to left, and we didnt find passing channels. In the second half, we won the ball back a few times and could've done more damage on the counter-attack, but misplaced the vertical pass. Considering the players who were struggling, I am pleased they put the effort in and tried to work for the team. "
Those tactical comments reflected a game of two different phases for Juventus. At first, the visitors defended deep and rarely connected passes through midfield, as Atalanta closed spaces and shifted play quickly across the pitch. After half-time, Juventus recovered possession more often and looked dangerous on counters, yet several promising breaks ended with inaccurate forward passes.
Spalletti’s assessment highlighted how physical issues for Kenan Yildiz, Francisco Conceicao and Thuram limited Juventus’ fluidity, but also underlined the collective effort needed to secure the result. With the victory, Juventus strengthened the grip on a Champions League position, while Atalanta’s defeat delivered a setback to their own qualification ambitions despite the stronger underlying statistics.
