East Bengal defender Kevin Sibille says Fans deserved ISL Trophy as '22 Years is a Long Time', urges Kolkata to support Argentina in World Cup

East Bengal became the Indian Super League champion, thus ending a wait for a top-flight league title of 22 years.

A part of Kolkata and Bengal erupted in joy as the Red and Gold brigade secured a 2-1 victory over Inter Kashi at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan and thus clinched the title at the expense of their arch rivals Mohun Bagan, albeit by goal difference.

The Torch Bearers have had difficult moments in the ISL over the past couple of years, but this season has hit different. Although a curtailed 13-match campaign, Oscar Bruzon and his men showed resilience and skill across the season, and got their eventual reward.

East Bengal fans expressed their purest emotion, and the players themselves jumped in joy and ecstasy. Among the players, the likes

of Miguel and Youssef Ezzejjari have been pivotal, as the duo won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot respectively, but at the defence, Kevin Sibille has been a big influence.

The 27-year-old Argentinian defender has brought defensive solidity, aerial dominance, composure on the ball, and strong passing range. His consistent performances at the heart of defence were crucial in East Bengal's title-winning campaign. And after the ISL-winning campaign, MyKhel caught up with him at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan.

"What we experienced today and what we are going to experience in these days was incredible. It will be incredible for a long time because today we stayed in the history of the club. I think we did a great job throughout the season and we deserved this trophy. Especially the fans, they deserved this trophy. It is a very special moment for the fans because 22 years is a long time," Sibille said after the match.

The former Valencia player also hopes for Argentina to win the World Cup, as Los Albicelestes will be aiming to defend their title under the leadership of Lionel Messi. Knowing that India has a huge fanbase for Argentina, the ISL winner also urged the fans to support Messi and co. at the biggest stage of football.
