Delhi Capitals restricted Rajasthan Royals to 193/8 in Match 62 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
After Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bowl first, his pace unit took apart the Royals' batting order and erase the visitors' strong early momentum.
Opening batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his exceptional tournament form to provide Rajasthan with a rapid start. The opener scored 46 runs off 21 deliveries, hitting three sixes and five boundaries at a strike rate of 219.05. During this innings, Sooryavanshi surpassed Abhishek Sharma's 2024 record (42) to register the most sixes by an Indian batter in a single IPL season with 43. His early aggression drove the Royals to 89/2 before his dismissal.
Following Sooryavanshi's departure at 161/2, Rajasthan experienced a severe batting collapse that derailed their innings, eventually stumbling to 193/8.
IPL 2026: RR lose 6 Wickets for 32 Runs!
While captain Riyan Parag (51 off 26) and Dhruv Jurel (53 off 40) initially steadied the scoreboard with a 72-run third-wicket partnership to reach 161/2, the final five overs proved disastrous. Mitchell Starc returned to the attack and engineered the collapse, taking three wickets in a devastating 15th over to remove Parag, Donovan Ferreira (0), and Ravi Singh (4). Starc finished with figures of 4/40, while Lungi Ngidi (2/24) and Madhav Tiwari (2/27) maintained the pressure. This disciplined bowling display caused RR to lose six wickets for just 32 runs in the closing stages.
The Rajasthan Royals failed to capitalise on a dominant early foundation, exposing a critical vulnerability in their lower-order execution against pace variations. By restricting Rajasthan from a projected 230-plus total down to 193, the Delhi Capitals' bowling unit successfully neutralised the pitch conditions. Delhi now enters the second innings requiring a highly manageable 194 runs to secure a vital victory and bolster their playoff aspirations.
