Sarah and Kathryn Bryce shared a 106-run stand to lift Scotland to their first ICC Women's T20 World Cup win, a 40-run victory over Ireland at Old Trafford in Manchester. Scotland recovered from 36 for two to make 161 for five, then bowled Ireland out for 121.
Kathryn Bryce made 60 from 39 balls, while Sarah Bryce scored 49 from 35. Katherine Fraser added 15 and Darcey Carter 14, before Ireland fought back through Ava Canning, who took three for 27. Amy Hunter's 39 kept Ireland in touch during their chase of 162.
Scotland's Record Stand In T20Is
The Bryce sisters came together after Scotland lost Fraser and Carter inside the powerplay. With runs hard to find on a slow outfield, they ran well between the wickets and added 36 runs in two overs at the midway stage. Kathryn reached
her fifty in the 15th over off 32 balls.
That was Scotland's first half-century at an ICC Women's T20 World Cup, and the partnership also brought their first century stand in the event. Sarah fell for 49 when she edged behind off Hunter, before Scotland lost Ailsa Lister and Kathryn Bryce in the same Canning over.
Kristie Gordon Gets Dream Debut For Scotland
Kirstie Gordon, back at the tournament after last playing for England, changed the match with three wickets in an over in her first Scotland appearance at a Women's T20 World Cup in eight years. She finished with three for 16 as Ireland slipped from 58 for two to 70 for six.
Hunter had earlier hit 14 runs off Chloe Abel's first over, but Scotland kept control through Fraser's three for 19. Kathryn Bryce also took a catch and later claimed the final wicket. Two run outs followed, and Ireland were all out in 19.1 overs.
