Mumbai Indians produced a record-breaking performance to thrash Gujarat Titans by 99 runs in their Indian Premier League 2026 clash in Ahmedabad on April 20, registering one of the biggest wins in franchise history.
After being put under early pressure at 44/3 in the power play by Kagiso Rabada, Mumbai found their hero in Tilak Varma. The left-hander delivered a sensational unbeaten 101 off just 45 balls, registering his maiden IPL century and powering his side to a formidable 199/5. He was well supported by Naman Dhir, who contributed 45 runs and later made an impact in the field with three catches.
GT vs MI: Bowlers Trigger Titans' Collapse
In response, Gujarat's chase unraveled almost instantly. Jasprit Bumrah struck with the very first ball, removing Sai Sudharsan, setting the tone
for a dramatic collapse. Ashwani Kumar then ripped through the middle order with a career-best 4/24, leaving Gujarat reeling.
The hosts were eventually bowled out for just 100 in 15.5 overs, their lowest total against Mumbai and the second-lowest in franchise history. It also marked only the fifth time Gujarat Titans have been bowled out in an IPL match, underlining the scale of the collapse.
Historic Win For MI
The victory stands as Mumbai's fourth-largest win by runs in IPL history and their first triumph against Gujarat in Ahmedabad after four previous failed attempts. It also marked a significant turnaround for Mumbai, who had lost six consecutive matches at the venue before this encounter.
The result reinforced the Mumbai Indians' dominance while defending 200-plus totals, with 19 wins in 20 such matches. It also continued a notable trend in this rivalry, with eight of the nine encounters now won by the side batting first.
With this emphatic win, the Mumbai Indians climbed to seventh place in the standings, while the Gujarat Titans slipped to sixth, highlighting the growing intensity of the mid-table battle in IPL 2026.
