Al-Hilal climbed to the top of the Saudi Pro League table after a controlled 2-0 victory over Damac at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium, moving above Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr. Goals
from Darwin Nunez and Marcos Leonardo in each half settled the contest and underlined Al-Hilal’s strong form in January league fixtures.
The visitors dominated possession from the start, although clear chances were scarce early on. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 35th minute, when Sergej Milinkovic-Savic delivered a precise cross from the right and Nunez stretched to guide the ball in from close range, rewarding Al-Hilal’s patient pressure before half-time.
Al-Hilal extended an impressive run in January Saudi Pro League matches with this win. The team have now suffered just one defeat in their past 36 league games played in that month. Their record in that sequence stands at 22 victories, 13 draws and a single loss, highlighting consistent winter stability in domestic competition.
Only Al-Nassr have collected more Saudi Pro League wins in January, with 30 compared to Al-Hilal’s 29. Milinkovic-Savic went close to scoring in a third straight league appearance for the first time. Although that personal landmark slipped away, the midfielder still has four goal contributions across the past three Pro League matches, underlining current influence.
Al-Hilal’s second goal arrived soon after the restart. Nunez aimed a cross into the penalty area that goalkeeper Kewin could only palm out, and the loose ball fell kindly for fellow Brazilian Leonardo, who passed it into the empty net. Nunez later forced another sharp save from Kewin, but the two-goal cushion remained.
Damac’s form at home continues to cause concern in the Saudi Pro League. This defeat means Damac have now gone seven consecutive home league matches without victory, their worst such sequence in the competition, with three draws and four losses. Their struggles include a difficult record against Al-Hilal in past Pro League meetings.
Indeed, Damac have lost eight Saudi Pro League games against Al-Hilal, which is as many as they have suffered versus Al-Shabab. Only against Al-Nassr, with nine defeats, have Damac endured more league losses. The result here fits a wider pattern of difficulty against the leading Pro League contenders in recent seasons.

The 2-0 scoreline ensured Al-Hilal overtook Al-Nassr at the Saudi Pro League summit and reinforced strong momentum. With key players such as Nunez, Leonardo and Milinkovic-Savic in form, and historical January results behind them, Al-Hilal leave Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium with confidence for the title race.
