In a major blow to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), young batting sensation Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2026 season due to a finger injury. The 20-year-old is expected to be sidelined for up to three months.
Raghuvanshi sustained the injury during KKR's four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on May 20. While attempting a full-length diving catch, he collided with teammate Varun Chakravarthy. The impact caused immediate discomfort, including neck pain, dizziness, and headaches. He was substituted under concussion protocols.
Medical assessments have now confirmed a finger fracture, ending his participation in the ongoing season. The incident had already sparked debate as KKR utilised a concussion
substitute, despite the primary concern appearing to be the finger injury.
Raghuvanshi has been one of the standout performers for KKR in IPL 2026. In 13 matches, he scored 422 runs at an impressive average of 42.20 and a strike rate of 146.53, including five half-centuries. His aggressive yet composed batting provided vital momentum to the team.
The Mumbai-born talent first gained attention as India's highest run-scorer in the 2022 U19 World Cup. KKR showed faith in him by signing him for ₹20 lakh in 2024 and retaining him for ₹3 crore in the 2025 mega auction. He has also developed wicketkeeping skills, adding valuable versatility to the squad.
Currently placed sixth on the points table with 13 points from 13 matches, KKR are in a tight battle for a playoff spot. They face Delhi Capitals in their final league match on May 24. The absence of their leading run-scorer and a key fielder-wicketkeeper is a significant setback to their depth and momentum.
