Frank Lampard says talk of a move to Bournemouth will not distract from Coventry City’s promotion push, as Coventry stand one point from a Premier League return. A draw against relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers on Friday would confirm top-flight football for the 2026-27 season and cap a strong Championship campaign.
The Bournemouth role will become vacant when Andoni Iraola leaves at the end of his contract in June, prompting speculation about Lampard’s future. Reports in England have linked Lampard with the Vitality Stadium, but Coventry’s manager insists all attention stays on securing the title before considering any next step.
Coventry have already recorded the highest points tally in the club’s history when counting three points for
a win, reaching 85 this season. One more point would end a 25-year absence from the Premier League, a period that saw Coventry drop as far as League Two before climbing back through the divisions.
Lampard took charge at Coventry in November 2024 and has delivered consistent results. Across 71 Championship matches, Lampard has overseen 41 wins, 14 draws and 16 defeats, giving an average of 1.93 points per game. The team reached the play-offs last season, losing to Sunderland in the semi-finals, but they now appear on course for the Championship title.

Asked by Sky Sports about the Bournemouth rumours, Lampard dismissed any suggestion of divided priorities. Lampard said: "Nothing, because I've been in this long enough to know those things happen, and very quickly, they change. My focus is on us. I want to win this league now after what we've done through thisseason, because it would be a slight anti-climax feeling for me if we didn't get the job done. That's a good pressure to have at this point.I want to do that. Nothing else is taking me away from thinking about that. "
The trip to Ewood Park brings added tension, as Blackburn Rovers battle to avoid relegation and need points themselves. Coventry, however, hold momentum after a strong run of form under Lampard. The manager has framed the pressure as positive, arguing that the situation reflects the progress made across the season.

Coventry now stand close to ending a long spell outside the elite, with promotion and a possible Championship title available with one more positive result. Lampard has made clear that discussions about any Bournemouth opportunity must wait while Coventry attempt to finish the job and complete a significant step in the club’s recovery.
