India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty claimed the Singapore Open. They lifted the men's doubles crown in Singapore on Sunday. The Indian pair beat Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Fikri. The BWF World Tour Super 750 final lasted 73 minutes. They won 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 after dropping game one.
Rankireddy and Shetty were seeded fourth at the Singapore event. Alfian and Fikri entered as the third-seeded Indonesian pair. The Indians became the first doubles combination from India to win. They are now the first Indian pair to lift the Singapore Open. Their domination grew after the opening game setback in the final.
Sat-Chi's Recent Form
The Singapore success is their third Super 750 title overall. They previously won the French Open Super 750 in 2022.
They added another French Open Super 750 crown in 2024. The duo also secured the Indonesia Super 1000 championship in 2023.
That previous success came at the Thailand Open 2024 event. They played a key role in India's Thomas and Uber campaign. India secured a bronze medal there during May this year. They then reached the Thailand Open final earlier this month. That runner-up finish preceded their title run in Singapore.
Singapore Open 2026: Road To The Finals
They beat Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae in the semifinals. The Korean world champions had a 34-match unbeaten run. That result set up Sunday's men's doubles title clash. They began the final strongly, moving ahead 5-2 early. Alfian and Fikri then matched them and claimed the first game.
After losing game one, the Indians increased their attacking style. From 8-8 in game two, they won six straight points. Alfian and Fikri saved two game points but still lost. With momentum high, Rankireddy and Shetty led 11-5 in the decider. The Indonesians narrowed the gap to 12-11 soon after. The Indians earned five match points and converted their second chance.
The victory sparked their familiar celebrations on court in Singapore. "I am bit numb today as we have won a title after a gap of two years. " "Before coming here, we were a bit nervous because we had not done very well here in the past. " "But this week was special," said Satwik after the title triumph.
