Rishabh Pant's return to red-ball action took a bruising turn on Day 3 of the second unofficial Test against South Africa A in Bengaluru.
Facing a fiery spell from Tshepo Moreki, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter absorbed three painful blows - on the helmet, elbow, and abdomen - before being forced to retire hurt.
Pant's problems began when a mistimed reverse sweep against Moreki's pace smashed into his helmet, prompting an immediate concussion check. He carried on, only to be struck again on the elbow and later on the midsection by a delivery that jagged back sharply. Clearly hurting, he walked off on 17 not out.
The India player has been included in the upcoming Test series against South Africa, and him walking back in distress was a concerning
scene for fans. The southpaw has dealt with injury issues for the last few months with a broken foot, and many thought his latest issue may further derail his international comeback.

But in typical Pant fashion, the story didn't end there. When India lost their sixth wicket, he strode back out, unfazed by the earlier knocks, and turned the tables with a brisk, attacking half-century that reignited India A's innings. The India vice-captain scored 65 runs off just 54 balls, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes in the process.
It can be a clear indicator that Pant is fit, further confirming his availability for the South Africa series. The flamboyant batter has stamped his authority in red ball cricket and is now set to make his elusive return.

Despite Pant's return against South Africa, which now looks inevitable, Dhruv Jurel has thrown in a big question in the ring. Gautam Gambhir and his team management has to think about the selection as Jurel hit twin centuries in the match. He scored a magnificent unbeaten 132 in the first innings, and has now notched up another unbeaten century in the second with 127 runs. India A have posted 382 runs for 7 before declaring, as South Africa A are handed a target of 417 runs.
