Brighton secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Brentford in the Premier League, despite Igor Thiago missing a crucial penalty in stoppage time. Thiago initially put Brentford ahead with a penalty in the 29th minute, marking his fourth successful spot-kick of the season. However, his late attempt was saved by Bart Verbruggen, ensuring Brighton's win.
Brighton's comeback began when Danny Welbeck equalised with a first-time finish from Yankuba Minteh's cross in the 71st minute. This came after Welbeck missed a similar opportunity earlier. Substitute Jack Hinshelwood then scored the winning goal with a volley that narrowly beat Caoimhin Kelleher in the 84th minute.
This victory marked Brighton's third consecutive home comeback win in the Premier League,
having previously overturned deficits against Liverpool and Manchester City. They are the first team to achieve such a feat since Manchester City did so between May 2022 and January 2023.
Despite Brentford's strong performance, highlighted by their 1.91 expected goals (xG), largely due to Thiago's penalties, Brighton managed to hold on for the win. The Seagulls generated 1.23 xG from 14 shots, showcasing their attacking prowess throughout the match.
Welbeck was instrumental for Brighton, taking four shots and converting one into an equaliser. Minteh also played a vital role, creating four chances during the game. His assist for Welbeck's goal was crucial in turning the tide in Brighton's favour.

The match concluded with Maxim De Cuyper conceding a penalty for pulling back Kevin Schade during stoppage time. However, Thiago failed to convert this chance into an equaliser as Verbruggen made a crucial save.
This victory not only highlighted Brighton's resilience but also marked Fabian Hurzeler's 50th league match as manager. The team's ability to overturn deficits at home has become a defining feature of their recent performances.
